The family have all had a bug over the last fortnight or so (and had a Covid test - it's just an old-fashioned non-life threatening cold). It's not been too bad - feeling a bit groggy in the morning, but then fine to work and do exercise etc in the day. This weekend mine has become more debilitating, but it's possibly down to having had the vaccine on Friday. Equally it's likely that a couple nights of poor sleep have exacerbated it. Equally the jab might be responsible for that too. Who knows any more? It's still on the annoying side of illness where you feel a bit rotten and lethargic, but are still perfectly capable of operating, just with an added degree of misery.
But this was a proper family day and I didn't want to miss out on the time with the kids. Even though it was fun to miss out on that time yesterday.
So I was able to be up early with the kids (I was awake anyway) and then play schools with them - it's Sunday, you idiots. Why would you want this? And to go on a long family walk in the rain. I had luckily chanced across a thin waterproof jacket that I had bought in Edinburgh four years ago and then completely forgotten that I owned. There was £3.90 in change in the pockets too, because I'd last worn this in a time when we used actual money. It was super waterproof though, so I was glad that I had bought it. Though annoyed to have forgotten about its existence until someone moved another coat off the peg where it had been hiding. I guess that if you can forget that you own a jacket then things are going pretty well for you.
My daughter has been banging on about a unicorn toy that she saw at the garden centre for well over a month now. I told her that if she still wanted it down the line and had been good that I would get it for her, so I finally relented and headed down there this afternoon. She was excited to see the toy, but as my son ummed and ahed about which toy he wanted, she changed her mind and plumped for a different (and cheaper) unicorn. And as he prevaricated further she then went for a different toy all together. Which shows that I was right about how fickle she would be. In the end I bought my son a hand puppet because I knew he'd lose interest anyway and I could use it in my stupid show. And then I bought another puppet for myself because I thought it would be a good addition. We need some new blood in Twitch of Fun to keep it fresh. Hope you will enjoy the new cast member(s).
I ploughed onwards and made the dinner and helped get the kids to bed, but I was spiralling into sleep. I managed a brief evening dog walk, but I was in bed by 7.30pm and asleep by 8 with the delicious prospect of 10 or 11 hours of sleep ahead of me. I think I will need more than that.
Monday sees the first live RHLSTPs since March 2020 (excusing the very tiny 300th episode where I was the guest). There are still tickets available to see me talking to Geoff Norcott and Sarah Kendall and it's all socially distanced and brilliantly run by the Clapham Grand. It would be a terrific boost to us and the theatre if you could make it along and get as many people into the cavernous space (capacity reduced due to Covid) as possible.
