Are any of these people going to prison? The ones who, at a time of national crisis gave contracts to their mates and their families? I can’t remember what happened to profiteers during World War II, but during lockdown we were at war, with a virus which is an even trickier enemy than a Nazi, and given we all gave up a lot for those long months it doesn’t seem right that anyone made a profit off it. Even an honest profit feels like it should have been taxed a bit more. But a dishonest one?
I’m not saying Mone, Hancock and Gove should have been shot in the public square, but I am not saying they shouldn’t have been either.
We have strayed a long way from the social contract and whilst I don’t have a huge problem with people working hard and making money (especially if that person is me and doesn’t have to work too hard), when it’s stuff like a pandemic and the NHS that are being exploited for profit (legal and illegal) then things have gone too far, no? And when did we stop prosecuting high profile people for crimes? I mean, we probably never really started, but it seems to have got worse in recent times. People seem to be able to stand for President again when loads of alleged crimes and breeches and attempts to storm buildings seem fairly directly connected.
I’ve been happy to largely sit back and watch the spectacle of our civilisation crashing into a cliff, mainly for entertainment purposes, but I guess we all have our tipping point. And too many of the tipping points will come too late when the momentum is behind the self-destruction.
It feels crazy that we have to wait for an election to get these people out. They rely on us waiting for an election, but will this winter be too much?

I recorded the Acast Plus bonus podcast this afternoon. It was pretty good. Somehow I accidentally live streamed the last four minutes, so you can watch them here https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1672720657. It that whets your appetite then join Acast Plus here.  https://plus.acast.com/s/rhlstp. There’s a bonus podcast every month and you can view the videos for all the show in the members’ area at rhlstp.co.uk.

Phoebe thinks the word imbecile is pronounced inbernsole. She keeps calling me an inbernsole in what is the greatest self-own ever. I have tried to correct her and let her know it’s imbecile, which to be fair is the actions of an imbecile.. But she refuses to change. And Ernie’s started doing it now as well. What a pair of inbernsoles.

Here’s my last newsletter of 2022 (unless something amazing happens - unlikely)
