I made the mistake of spending most of my evening watching the goings on in parliament and if anything was to dampen your hopes for a peaceful future for humanity, this was it. Although it did make me hope that our archaic parliamentary system might soon be overthrown as it reveals itself unfit for purpose and is replaced by something where our representatives are adults and normal human beings. I wasn't particularly impressed with anyone, but the Prime Minister was particularly odious and terrifying. The Supreme Court judgement has no effect on him other than to steel him to get rid of the Supreme Court. The only option for the criminals ruling over us is that they take control of the law so that their one impropriety and treasons can not be punished. With Trumpian, even Leeian, use of deflection he accuses others of what it is that he himself is guilty of and takes nothing seriously. Did he deliberately make the offensive comments about Jo Cox to change the conversation or did he just open his mouth and see what came out? In the case of saying what Jo Cox would have wanted (or was it the best way to honour her) was Brexit on 31st October I suspect he was just parroting his script and didn't bother to think about how that was probably not the thing she'd have liked to have happened. Out of all the ways she could have been honoured. Probably not to institute the thing that she was campaigning against and which led pretty directly to her death.
I don't see how they are going to navigate their way through this. I think it's pretty clear that the intention is we should leave with no deal, but when that happens and chaos inevitably ensues, how will they get through that next bit?
Maybe they don't care. Maybe people will just be happy that it seems to be over. But it won't be over because no one is making any attempt to bring both sides together (are they just assuming Remainers won't riot or formant the violence that Farage threatens if Brexit doesn't happen?) and also there will be a decade or more of negotiations to get through. If people want to get it over with there is only one way to do that and that is not to do it.
Personally I think we have to go ahead and leave, but I don't understand the haste. Aside from it being about EU laws on tax changing and the money that stands to be made by falling off the cliff. If people really want to get out of the EU then lets take our sweet time and do it properly so that it has a chance of sticking.
After watching tonight I think that more bloodshed is pretty much inevitable. And it's a cynical and selfish path that is being taken by our new Prime Minister. And I am more and more certain that he'll brush off all these defeats and allegations and go on to be Prime Minister for another decade. But it will not be good for any of us. And ultimately I hope he will get his just desserts. And I hope I am one of the lucky survivors who gets to see that happen.
