My copies of “Would You Rather?” arrived today. It's always a bit of a thrill to see your book in print, but this one came together so quickly that it feels a bit surreal. It's out next week in book, ebook and audiobook (and the four hour long chat with Stevie Martin is sounding great and is a very different experience to the physical book, so feel free to buy both) or wherever you get your books from.
We've all got one book in us. I've managed 10 (if you count the self-published ones). There's at least one more to come too.
But I have to write my sitcom first!

I had intended to get on with the next script today, but it was more of a thinking day. I started thinking that maybe the idea I had for episode 4 might sit better as episode 6, but that would mean a couple of plot points would need to be made to happen in a different way. I had an idea how that might work, but think I might write script number 5 next as that's more formulated in my head. I basically have a 3 day working week for this project (Mondays are taken up with RHLSTP, Tuesdays with RHLSTP recovery and the weekends are for the family) so it feels scary to not get anything down on (virtual) paper today, but these more thoughtful days are important too.
I was doing other stuff - preparing for Twitch of Fun by picking out news stories and doing a tough 30 minute routine on the rowing machine, cooking a Gousto lunch (it said it would take 25 mins but took longer). Then a man delivered a load of logs to our house. It's all right, I had asked him to do it. I'd hoped he could put them in the garage and we could deal with them later, but his loader wouldn't fit in, so he dumped them on the pavement/road outside the garage. So Catie and me had to move them all into the garage. Which took a good while. And we can't leave them in the garage because we need to charge our car, so I started moving them into the wood store. But the wood store is a bit of a mess, full of bits of fence and huge bits of wood that I thought I might be able to burn, but which I can't be arsed to saw up, so I had to clear those bits out first. And then I started moving the new logs into the store and into the house. I had reduced the pile by over 100 logs and it didn't look any smaller. It was good exercise though and a better mindless activity than playing poker or Homescapes on my phone, which is how I usually try to get my subconscious working on a script. And I felt like I was doing proper manual labour (even if it was absolutely the most basic kind). It was hard though and took a lot of time. I am not saying that what I was doing was as hard as felling a tree and cutting up into manageable logs… actually I am saying that. Moving the logs around is probably harder. I don't even have a wheelbarrow (let alone a chain saw). I had to use the washing basket. Like a real man. So fuck you lumberjacks.
It was a pretty good work out. But then I had to pick up the kids - two separate drives because Phoebe had an after school activity and got an hour to do more Twitch of Fun prep while they had dinner, but my printer wasn't working and my computer decided to upload an update. Then I made another Gousto dinner, which took a lot of work again, but it's interesting to see how easy it is to make the sort of dishes that I'd never really try (coating prawns in bread crumbs and frying them- turns out it's pretty simple). This was the best one of the four, but it hasn't saved us any time (it's saved my wife time as I cooked all four of the fuckers, but to be fair, she usually does more cooking than me).
And to top it all the Twitch of Fun set up was playing up and none of my buttons were working. I could have soldiered on, but decided to bring things to a close after ten minutes and try again tomorrow. I blame Terry.
