Down to the last two in the World Cup and thus the competition is over. We know the best two football teams in the world and that question is settled for another four years. I believe the two teams play a game between each other, but just for fun, with no one counting the goals, just to celebrate the game. Sadly it isn’t televised, but that’s for the best. This is their moment.

The freeze continues, but enough of the pipes are operational to keep us alive. Phoebe was off school again, but I think she could probably have gone in, as she was full of beans and fine to take part in her end of term drama club. Ernie had his performance too, but he was not the centre of attention for most of it and was distracted. I really can’t understand how he has turned out like this. The young kids show is always a bit of a trial to get through as the kids mumble through their lines. 2 stars from this reviewer. I watched with Phoebe and we agreed that if Ernie wasn’t any good in the show, we’d just pretend we were related to whoever was the best.
Her show was a bit more ambitious- yet another telling of the story of Scrooge with songs in it and no Muppets. There was one catchy number, but it was bold of this local drama group to take on this subject when there are so many excellent productions already. I will give them a drudging three stars. And that’s only because the girl playing the undertaker was so good.
I ordered an after show pizza on my phone during this performance and afterwards Phoebe was annoyed with me for being on my phone during her show. Which is fair enough. Though I had also been videoing some of her performance (and pretended that’s what I had been doing). Probably she’ll remember this slight for the rest of her life and do a stand up show about it. But hopefully she will understand what a sacrifice it was for me to turn up to any of these performances. I loved the bits with my kids in (even when Ernie was just doing unscripted body popping on the floor) but there’s an awful lot of watching other kids that you don’t even know doing stuff that isn’t even any good.
Maybe I will do a show about how abusive it is of my kids to make me sit through this.

I mainly wasted the day away, which is fine, because I am basically on holiday, but had hoped to at least sort out some of our frozen pipes or do some reading. I mainly played UNO against strangers on the internet. I really like this game and there is some limited skill (and memory feats) in the basic game, but I think I am mainly playing against Russian and Japanese teenage girls, judging by their avatars. So when I defeat them and shout “in your fucking face you loser” (they can’t hear me), it’s probably not as great a victory as I think it is.

Also an extensive chat involving Scroobius Pip, Adam Buxton and me is up on Pip’s podcast feed. Unusually I listened back to this one - it was recorded a few weeks ago and I couldn’t really remember what we talked about. It was a pleasure to talk with these two excellent gentlemen and to pat ourselves on the back for making modest to slightly good successes of our podcasts.  I think you can probably work out who all of the names that got bleeped on my behalf were. I didn't ask him to bleep everything!
