A couple more Edinburgh Fringe podcasts in the bag, recorded in front of small but appreciative audiences at the Bill Murray. Elf Lyons was the first guest, an act I first saw in 2010 when she was doing a routine about rolling stock on the London Underground, which certainly made her stand out from other newer acts. She was only 19 then amazingly (not many comics of that age would have gone their own way so early) but since then she's done all kinds of weird/wonderful projects, including one where she accidentally knocked herself out early during an Edinburgh run, was advised to not perform for a month, but was basically forced to carry on or lose a fortune. She is unable to remember any of the performances from the first week of the run. She got standing ovations as well, or at least she claims! It was a refreshingly nutty chat and includes a very good ghost story - out in the early part of August.
The other guest was Micky Overman, a Dutch comic who did some very funny online videos during lockdown but who I struggled to research as there isn't loads about her online and her own website just links to her social media. I love comics with a different perspective and it's great when someone comes from another country and can observe how we all behave from a detached point of view. The interview had a very funny misunderstanding when I asked Micky where she was on at (meaning which venue) and she thought I was asking something more personal. She also struggled to think of a word in English, but then remembered and then when I asked her what it was in Dutch, she couldn't remember. It's fascinating to see a brain switching between two languages and as a man who has always struggled to learn languages I am blown away by how fantastic her English is.
Tellingly, like someone who has had a head injury whilst performing, I can't remember anything about the drive in or out of London. I presume I got home safely because I am writing this, but who knows?
