After dropping the kids off at school I came home and loaded the ancient fireplace in our house with cut up bits of decking and warmed myself for the morning for the cost of one match. We have a lot of decking to get through, but it's good that in these times of economic problems that I don't yet have to resort to burning the furniture.
It did strike me that if it were not for the now excised vermin in our kitchen ceiling we would probably not have taken up the decking (shame we didn't notice the ventilation hatch on the side of the house first as that was the most obvious entry point) and so if one of the sparks from the fire landed somewhere where it could smoulder, those rodents might succeed in burning down our house. Which would be the ultimate revenge for us poisoning them and then locking their friends out of the place. You never know what will kill you. But it might be mice.
Or they might lead to you saving on your heating bills (as long as you don't consider the cost of putting in and taking up the decking and then replacing it with something else).
The day pootled away as I did a bit of research, looked for news stories for Twitch of Fun and read some books for future podcasts and then took the dog out for a bit of stone Clearing. It was one of those weirdly eventful chapters where stuff kept happening (or I imagined it did), but I got to see a symphony of birds creating sheet music on some telephone lines. I hope one day that music will be played.
And Catie was out again - I don't know where she goes on these nights but she always comes back looking relaxed and happy - so I got the kids to bed (or one of them at least) and then did Twitch of Fun which also turned out to be quite eventful as it said I was going out live, but I wasn't, so I did ten minutes to no one and then once we were running properly Phoebe came back to tell me she couldn't sleep as the cats  were trapped in her wardrobe. I don't think there are many broadcasters who have to deal with stuff like that, but that's what sets me apart. Which is true whichever way you look at it.

Only a week to the publication of the paperback of Can I Have My Ball Back? Get it from any of these reputable dealers.

Oh and this is exciting. Tommy Tiernan will be one of my guests at the 3Olympia in Dublin on 2nd March. Already selling well, but it's a huge venue. Come along Ireland.
