Threads continues to be a source of human stupidity for me (and I am not adding any intelligence to the mix). At the moment about 25% of the posts I am seeing (and this might be because I keep responding to dumb religious content) is about how Noah's Ark has been discovered. Some people think Noah's Arc has been discovered, which I would be even more interested to see. No one yet has claimed Joan of Arc has been discovered or done the Who was Noah's wife? joke.
Mostly though, people are clever enough to spell Ark correctly, but not clever enough to at least doubt that a wooden structure from 4000 years ago might have survived, but also have gone unnoticed up to now.
There does seem to be a structure that is boat-shaped, but I prefer to imagine that scientists have discovered Goliath's Vulva. Not only proof that giants once walked the earth, but that Goliath might have been gender fluid. Don't know if that's good or bad news for those who think the Bible is literally true.
The flood story is even older than the Old Testament of course. Is it old enough that the ark could have become fossilised? God can do anything though, so I guess he could have turned it into stone. Because although most of the time He wants to work on faith- you just have to believe, even though there is no reliable evidence (which any other time would suggest a scam was going on) - sometimes he wants to chuck in a massive ark sized bit of evidence that proves it's all true. It must be annoying to be doubted. Then again if He just appeared in the sky and told everyone to obey him I think He'd have a much better hit rate and save many souls from Hell. Also he could just say which religion was the real one and save loads of lives too.
Some people think it would have been too tricky for Noah to collect and house two of every species from the whole world, but you're forgetting God was involved and he could beam in the Australian and American animals using laser His fingers. And then put them back again afterwards. And make the ark like a Tardis so it had lots of room. None of that bothers me.
My main issue with the flood story is if this was a worldwide flood, wouldn't there have been quite a lot of people near the sea who had access to boats, or who were even on boats. And as long as they had fishing nets would have been able to sit out the flood until land returned. I guess God could use His laser fingers to sink those.
It all checks out.
Another post today said "Scripture records the global Flood, which explains why we discover dinosaur fossils buried in mud across every single continent."
I am not sure that does explain it. Is it because the dinosaurs were killed in the flood (which would mean Noah didn't obey God and get two of every creature) or that the upheaval of the water spread the bones around? Were there dinosaurs everywhere anyway, so their bones would be all over the world regardless or were they all in one place and then spread around?
It would have been a lot to get a brontosaurus on the ark, let alone two of the things, so maybe Noah cut some corners. Annoying that he classified horses and unicorns as the same thing though. Presumably centaurs too. Sometimes he was very broad in his categories and sometimes he kept thousands of similar but slightly different species of beetle. Noah was a weird guy.
I guess that ark shaped bit of rock might turn out to be an ark, somehow. But there will still be some unanswered questions. Well done God, for keeping it all mysterious and unprovable.
