It's been a real tonic for all of us to be back in Cheddar, but this was always going to be a flying visit. Covid allowing we're returning for a holiday in August. I somehow coaxed the whirlwind of my kids and all our possessions into the car and we were on our way before 9am. And though there was some early tears (and those were just from the teachers.. oh hold on) things settled and once again we had a dream journey where the only person who needed to stop for a wee was me.
As I said I hadn't seen my mum (or dad) for about 18 months which was the longest separation we'd ever had and the kids hadn't seen their mum for almost 48 hours, which might have been their longest time apart too. So it was good to be back. Catie was a little better, but still unwell and four weeks into this I still have an annoying cough. Covid might have been a better option for us than whatever this is.
I was knackered but decided that if I just kept going then my body wouldn't notice, so we played in the garden with the water sprinkler and then I went to the supermarket. Ice lollies were in short supply and there was just one pack of Solero left and it was the inferior purple kind. Supermarkets should keep a supply of lollies for customers who buy them every week throughout the year, rather than letting them be snaffled up by the fly by nights who only eat ice lollies when it's hot. Where is my reward for Solero loyalty?
That's what I want on my gravestone.
Once home I got the kids to bed. Luckily they were knackered too and so whilst my wife podcasted from her sick bed I had a bath and read Isy Suttie's upcoming novel “Jane is Trying†which hooked me in straight away and is full of laugh out loud moments, but also impressively literary and clever. Comedians are so smart so I don't know why it surprises me when they do something impressive in a tangential field.
Unfortunately due to self-isolation rules Isy can't do RHLSTP on the 7th June any more, but she will instead be the guest on the 14th. So I should be able to finish her book. It leaves me only a couple of days to book a replacement for next week's gig, but sometimes that can lead to something surprising or great. Ticket sales are a little slow for the remaining three gigs (though have a potentially very exciting guest or guests for the final show so think that should help boost numbers), so please come along if you can

Before bed we watched this week's nicely creepy Inside Number 9, never quite managing to guess the twist. I think this my favourite of the series so far and it's great that there's a series like this where every episode is a stand alone with different characters. Reece and Steve do an amazing job with keeping up the standard and still managing to surprise you - something that the Twilight Zone (as much as I like it) wasn't particularly good at. That was much more formulaic and guessable.
