Woke up in Salford, in Hertfordshire for lunch. These days are long and confusing, but lovely to be back home even after just one night away. The upcoming Ball tour will take me away for 5 night stretches sometimes! How will I cope? The sleep. The beautiful sleep! (I don't sleep any better in hotels sadly, but did manage not to get up til 7.30am today so that's not nothing).
I raked up the leaves in the garden in the rain. The garden bin men come tomorrow and I couldn't leave this much longer (get it?) and pretty much all the leaves have fallen from the big tree next door, so it seemed like time. The bin got full quick. Even with leaf compression there wasn't room for all the leaves. I will keep you updated with part 2 of this story when it happens.
I then had to get the bin full of leaves up the step to the higher patio area and out on to the street. That step is much higher since we took up the decking that has been heating our home for the last few weeks (through burning in the wood burner). Despite having done some good weight training lately I couldn't quite pull it all the way up in one go. But leaves are so light, how could this happen. Eventually I inelegantly tipped and dragged and pushed the bin to the higher level. Surprisingly few leaves fell out. It would have been a humiliating way to put my back out, but I survived.
I had thought I might do a little exercise too, but the leaf lifting floored me and though I managed a wet dog walk through the sticky mud, I was pretty much exhausted by the time it got to putting the kids to bed. Somehow I got them there in the end, though I was much more inclined to sleep than them.
