Bad day for my football teams with Phoebe's team going down 4-0 this morning and York City losing 2-1 this afternoon. A win would have seen them jump to about 13th but it's so tight that a loss leaves them in 19th. Will they be relegated or reach the play offs. Either is possible. But they will definitely be relegated.
Phoebe played well and had a decent chance of a goal in the last quarter. The opposing team was strong and organised and 4-0 was actually a big win for us. There was one quarter where they scored three goals and otherwise it was fairly well matched (especially when we got an extra player after being 4-0 down (those are the rules).
Phoebe was off to spend lunchtime with a friend, so I hung out with Ernie and we had fun playing video games and walking the dog. We gathered some kindling for the fire and Ernie tried to race Wolfie. As always one at a time parenting is loads of fun cos there's no bickering and punching.
I walked the dog later on my own in the dark. I am listening to CK Mcdonnell's "The Stranger Times" which is a lot of fun. He's not the first stand up to move over to becoming a novelist and he won't be the last. I fancy doing it too, except I don't have a great idea and it looks like a lot of work. His book bustles with jokes, ideas and strong characters and it's about a world full of magic and vampires and stuff.
I don't think I've seen CK (or Caimh as I know him) since we gigged together in Galway about 17 years ago. I didn't seem to write about the gig in Warming Up, but I think it went OK. All I remember is the comedians all stayed in a flat (probably) above the gig (or somewhere nearby). It's unusual to end up having a flat share at gigs and I was glad it was with Caimh, as unlike some comedians he was a fun and untroublesome flatmate.
Comedy's loss is writing's gain (unless he's still doing stand up). Doubtless will find out when I have him on Book Club at some point. But I am finding the book inspiring in terms of showing that it's possible to make the leap. You still have to have an idea and then do the work though, which are the bits that I am struggling with. All I want is to come up with a concept that will earn me millions of pounds and mean I don't have to work again. Not sure that's happened yet with Caimh, but I could see this making a very popular film or TV series.
